Worknc Tutorial
WorkNC is a premier automatic CNC software used primarily in the mold, die, and tooling industries for 2 to 5-axis programming. It is known for its ability to automate the generation of reliable toolpaths with minimal user input, even for highly complex 3D geometries. Core Workflow Steps
A typical session in WorkNC follows a structured process to move from a raw 3D model to finished machine code: Introduction to WORKNC CAD/CAM Software
3. Coordinate Systems
Check your Work Coordinate System (WCS). WorkNC aligns the CAD model's origin with the machine's origin by default. If your part needs to be machined at an angle, now is the time to define a new coordinate system or "View." worknc tutorial
Step 3: Selecting a Roughing Strategy (Z-Level Core Roughing)
This is where WorkNC shines.
- Navigate to the
Toolpathstab. - Click
3D Z-Level > Core Roughing. - The parameter panel opens.
Configure the Tool:
- Click
Tool Library. Search for a 12mm flat end mill. - Set:
- Cutting Length: 25mm
- Overall Length: 75mm
- Holder: ER32 collet chuck.
- Click
Apply.
Configure the Parameters:
- Machining Mode:
By Area(WorkNC will find the pocket automatically). - Stepdown (Depth per pass): 1.5mm (for steel).
- Stepover: 9mm (75% of tool diameter).
- Stock to leave: 0.5mm (for finishing later).
- Feedrates: Speed 8000 RPM, Feed 1200 mm/min.
The Critical Step (Collision Checking):
- Scroll down to
Check Tools. EnsureAutomatic Holder Checkis ON. - Click
Calculate. WorkNC will analyze the model and generate blue and red toolpath lines showing the roughing passes.
1. Z-Level Finishing (Steep Walls)
Best for vertical or near-vertical walls.
- Parameters: Stepover = 0.25mm to 0.5mm. Tolerances = 0.01mm.
- Enable "Order by depth" to cut bottom-to-top, reducing tool deflection.
Part 2: Geometry Preparation – The Foundation of CAM
One of WorkNC’s strengths is its tolerance for “dirty” geometry (bad surfaces), but clean data yields perfect toolpaths. This WorkNC tutorial uses the Surface Healer. WorkNC is a premier automatic CNC software used
