Steps to Generate a Report:

Prerequisites

• ESXi host installed and accessible (via vSphere Client or Host Client).
• Valid perpetual license key (e.g., XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX).
• License capacity – Ensure the key supports your host’s CPU socket count.
• Administrator privileges on the ESXi host.

⚠️ Note: As of Broadcom’s acquisition, new perpetual licenses are no longer sold for vSphere 8+ (except for existing support contracts). Use this guide for existing perpetual keys or evaluations.

Step 4 – Verify

• Check Expiration field → should say Never (for perpetual licenses).
• Confirm feature set matches purchased edition.

7. Important Notes

• Upgrades: A perpetual license for ESXi 7.x works for 7.x updates but not for ESXi 8.x (unless you have active SnS and upgrade entitlement).
• vCenter requirement: Free ESXi license cannot be managed by vCenter.
• Broadcom change: As of 2024, free ESXi still exists but requires registration on Broadcom site. No new paid perpetual licenses.
• Key management: Store your license key offline; Broadcom’s portal is the only official source.
