What is Split4G?

Split4G is a dedicated, lightweight PC tool designed specifically to solve the 4GB bottleneck for PS3 users. Unlike generic file splitters that create arbitrary .001, .002 files, Split4G is built to comply with the PS3’s native backup format (originally designed for multi-disc games via multiMAN and webMAN MOD). The tool automates the process of splitting a large PS3 file (usually an ISO or a PKG) into 1GB or smaller chunks (e.g., .66600, .66601) that a FAT32 drive can store. More importantly, it creates a checksum file (.BMD) that allows backup managers on the PS3 to automatically re-merge these fragments into a single working file in real-time as the game loads. PS3 uses FAT32 for USB storage; game folders

3. How It Works (Workflow)

  1. User selects a game folder or ISO on PC hard drive.
  2. Split4G scans for any file >4GB.
  3. Splits each large file into .66600, .66601, etc. (based on 4GB – 1 byte to be safe).
  4. Outputs to target FAT32 USB drive (or another folder).
  5. On PS3: multiMAN detects the split files and reassembles them on-the-fly when copying to internal HDD.

⚠️ The PS3 cannot play games directly from split files on USB – they must be copied internally.
