1. The Super Sonic DLC
Originally, Super Sonic was locked behind a physical toy tie-in (a Sonic Forces Happy Meal toy from McDonald's). Due to fan backlash, Sega made him available digitally.
- What it adds: Unlocks Super Sonic as a playable character in all main stages (except for the Avatar stages, as Super Sonic cannot use Wispons).
- Gameplay change: Super Sonic is invincible, moves faster, and doesn't require rings to maintain his form (unlike traditional Sonic games). He is essentially a "easy mode" or a fun playground character for speedrunning levels.
What is an NSP?
An NSP is a file format used by the Nintendo Switch. It is essentially a digital package that contains a game, update, or DLC, structured exactly as it would be downloaded directly from Nintendo’s CDN (Content Delivery Network). Unlike XCI (cartridge dumps), an NSP installs directly to the Switch’s internal memory or SD card. For Sonic Forces, the base NSP is approximately 8.5 GB.
Part 6: The Verdict – Is the Complete Sonic Forces Package Worth It?
After installing the full NSP, update, and all DLC, how does Sonic Forces hold up?
The Good:
- Portability: Even with all DLC costumes and stages, the game fits comfortably on a 128 GB SD card alongside 10 other AAA titles.
- Completionist Appeal: The DLC triples the amount of cosmetics, giving long-term goals for collecting rings and customizing your Hero.
- Shadow's Gameplay: The Episode Shadow DLC is genuinely better designed than half the main game’s Modern Sonic stages.
The Bad:
- File Size Bloat: The DLC costumes are essentially high-res textures for clothing models. The 1.5 GB DLC pack is surprisingly large for what is cosmetic only.
- No Super Sonic in DLC: Strangely, even with "All DLC," Super Sonic is locked behind a separate, difficult Red Star Ring hunt in the main game. The DLC does not auto-unlock it.
Final Score for the Complete Package: 7.5/10 (Up from 6/10 for base game).
The update fixes the technical hiccups, Episode Shadow provides the edge the story lacked, and the costume packs turn the Avatar mode from a gimmick into a delightful SEGA history museum.
Updates (Patches)
Sega released several updates to improve performance, fix bugs, and add DLC support. The final game version is 1.1.0 (or 1.1.1 in some regions – minor fix). Sonic Forces Switch NSP Update: Get Ready for
