Recuva v1.53 — Complete Setup Guide
Part 2: First-Time Setup Wizard (Initial Configuration)
Upon first launch, Recuva v1.53 runs a Wizard to guide you. Here’s how to navigate it:
Step 2: Language Selection
Choose your preferred language (English, German, French, Spanish, etc.) and click OK.
Step 2 – Official Sources (Still Available)
Even though Piriform now promotes newer versions, the v1.53 installer is archived on their legacy servers: recuva v153 setup new
- Go to
www.ccleaner.com/recuva/builds(Piriform’s official build archive). - Look for “Recuva v1.53.1087” (the exact version number).
- Click the Free Download button – this gives you the “recuva_v153_setup_new.exe” file.
- Alternatively, use the direct Portable ZIP version (no installation needed).

Screen 5: Start Scan
- Click Start. Recuva begins scanning based on your selections.
Phase 4: First Launch Configuration
When you first open Recuva v1.53 (from Start Menu or desktop icon): Go to www
- The Wizard appears. You can cancel it if you’re experienced, but beginners should follow along.
- Choose file type (Pictures, Documents, Video, etc.) or “All Files.”
- Pick the location (e.g., “On my media card or USB drive” or “In a specific location”).
- Enable Deep Scan for severely damaged drives (takes 10–60 minutes).
- Click Start.
Step E: Recover to a Different Drive
Critical Rule: Never recover files to the same drive where they were deleted. Select a different drive (e.g., external USB or second hard drive) to avoid permanently destroying the data you’re trying to save.
Click Recover and choose a destination.
