As a teacher I wanted to give assignments to my students, but (IMHO) the available simulators were not intuitive enough. We worked out the first version of this simulator with José Antonio Matte, an engineering student at PUC Chile. The simulator was functional but a bit unstable, so I created this second version. Please let me know if the simulator is being used in new institutions. If you find any bugs or have comments feel free to contact me.
In the pantheon of modern rock, few albums command the same reverence as Queens of the Stone Age’s 2013 masterpiece, …Like Clockwork. Born from a near-death experience, a rotating cast of rock legends (Elton John, Trent Reznor, Dave Grohl), and a six-year creative drought, the album is a sonic journey through despair, decadence, and redemption.
But for the discerning audiophile, streaming a compressed MP3 or an AAC file from a standard service is akin to viewing the Sistine Chapel through a smudged pair of sunglasses. If you have ever searched for "Queens of the Stone Age Like Clockwork FLAC better," you already suspect the truth: You are missing half the story.
Here is the definitive deep dive into why the FLAC (Free Lossless Audio Codec) version of …Like Clockwork doesn’t just sound different—it sounds better.
Do this, and you’ll hear the tape saturation, Josh’s close-mic’ed vocals, and the low-end grind in “Keep Your Eyes Peeled” the way it was meant to sound.

I know we all love the convenience of streaming, but if you haven’t heard Queens of the Stone Age’s …Like Clockwork in lossless FLAC format, you’re only getting half the story.
This album is famously dense and "dusty." When you listen to the high-res files, the separation is insane. You can actually hear the grit in Josh’s falsetto on "The Vampyre of Time and Memory," and the drum hits on "My God is the Sun" lose that mushy digital compression and actually thump your chest.
It turns a great desert rock record into a full cinematic experience. If you have a decent pair of cans or speakers, do yourself a favor and upgrade the bitrate. It’s how this masterpiece was meant to be heard. Who else thinks this is QOTSA's peak production-wise?
