Crystal Reports XI Runtime Installer

by Peter van Mil

The only supported way to deploy Crystal Reports XI applications using the Report Designer Component (RDC) is using merge modules. In this document is described how to make a Windows Installer based setup package, that does nothing more or less than installing the Crystal Reports XI runtime to run a VDF 11.1 sample report. I have used the following tools: Crystal Report XI Developer Edition, updated merge modules, Orca and Installer2Go.

Crystal Report XI Developer Edition

For developing RDC based applications you need Crystal Reports XI Developer Edition or Crystal Reports XI for DataFlex. Both versions copy the necessary deployment files on your PC. CR XI for DataFlex includes the Connectivity Kit for Crystal Reports, that supports native DataFlex files.

Merge Modules

Business Objects put all the necessary files and settings for the Crystal Reports XI runtime in merge modules. Merge modules are components, that can be included in Windows Installer based packes. Crystal Reports XI needs the license keycode to be included in the installer, so I isn't possible to convert somehow the four merge modules into one installer.
Updated merge modules are available at http://support.businessobjects.com/fix/merge_modules.asp. Copy these files to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Merge Modules.

Orca

Orca is a Windows Installer package editor provided as part of the Windows Installer SDK. You will find it by looking for PSDK-x86.exe in Google. The title of the download site is confusing: "Windows Server 2003 SP1 Platform SDK Web Install". When you install PSDK-x86.exe you will find Orca.Msi at C:\Program Files\Microsoft Platform SDK\Bin. Install it and you will have a shortcut to Orca.exe.

With Orca you can open the file CrystalReports11_RDC_License.msm. It is tempting to change everything that is possible, but it might be better to change just one thing: the license keycode. In the left pane you can choose for property and in the right pane you can set the value of PIDKEY. This isn't the serial number, but the code with the format XXXXX-XXXXXXX-XXXXXXX-XXXX. Orca saves the code in the merge module.

Understanding Golden Al-Wafi Translator: A Professional Translation Tool text-to-speech functionality (British English)

Golden Al-Wafi Translator is a sophisticated translation software designed specifically for high-speed, professional-grade translation between English and Arabic. Developed by ATA Software, it has long been a staple for researchers, businesses, and students who require a reliable bridge between these two languages without relying solely on an internet connection. How Golden Al-Wafi Works

The software operates through a combination of a massive dictionary database and advanced linguistic engines. Unlike basic dictionary apps, Golden Al-Wafi is built to handle complex sentence structures rather than just word-for-word substitution.

Linguistic Engine: It uses a specialized engine to analyze the grammatical structure of English sentences before converting them into Arabic, aiming to preserve the original meaning and context.

Dual-Window Interface: The workspace typically features a side-by-side or top-bottom layout, allowing users to view the source text and the translated output simultaneously for easy editing.

Massive Vocabulary: It boasts a vocabulary of over 2 million words and terms, covering various fields such as medicine, law, engineering, and commerce. Key Features of the Software

Speech Synthesis: One of its standout "work" features is the text-to-speech capability, which helps users understand the correct pronunciation of English words and sentences.

User Dictionary: Professionals can customize the software’s "work" by adding their own specialized terminology to a personal dictionary, ensuring consistent translations for niche industry terms.

Batch Translation: For those with large volumes of text, the software can process entire documents quickly, significantly reducing the manual workload.

Offline Functionality: Because it is a desktop application, its core translation work does not require a constant internet connection, making it a secure choice for sensitive or private documents. Practical Applications

In a professional setting, Golden Al-Wafi is often used as a first-draft tool. While no automated translator is 100% accurate with the nuances of Arabic literature or complex legal jargon, it provides a highly accurate "base" translation. Translators then "work" the text—refining the output to ensure the tone and cultural nuances are perfectly captured.

5. Common Pitfalls & Golden Fixes

| Mistake | Golden Alwafi Correction | |---------|--------------------------| | Over-localizing legal terms | Keep original term + bracket literal translation. | | Breaking number/date formats | Preserve source format unless locale demands change. | | Inconsistent client-specific jargon | Use termbase lookup before every translation. | | Ignoring embedded objects (images with text) | Extract and translate, then reinsert. |
