Geometry Dash — Comprehensive Tutorial (All Versions)
This tutorial covers core mechanics, controls, level types, progression, creation tools, and version-specific notes for Geometry Dash (main releases and prominent spin-offs). It assumes general familiarity with rhythm-platformers.
Version 2.1 (January 2017 – long development)
- Massive editor update: triggers (alpha, pulse, rotate, spawn, etc.), groups, advanced move triggers.
- New shaders (glow, blur).
- 3 new secret levels (The Seven Seas, Viking Arena, Power Trip).
- First introduction of "Camera Offset" (used in platformer later).

- New level: Time Machine (introduces blue jump pads/orbs)
- New feature: Level editor (basic)
- Small icon/color additions.
7. Editor fundamentals (creating levels)
- Layout: build a single “lane” per mode; ensure consistent rhythm sync.
- Use the grid and snap-to-beat features to align objects to the music.
- Start simple: platforming basics → introduce a new mechanic per section.
- Triggers:
- Use Color triggers to change background/blocks.
- Move/Rotate triggers for dynamic obstacles.
- Alpha/Glow for visual polish.
- Test frequently in Practice and full Play; fix impossible segments.
- Performance: minimize object overdraw and excessive effects to reduce lag.
