Firmware update for XIAOMI Mi TV 4A Pro 43

The Ugly

Update size & storage
The OTA is typically 800MB–1.2GB. On the Mi TV 4A Pro’s cramped 8GB eMMC, post-update you’ll see <2.5GB free. Some users report system update cache not clearing automatically, forcing manual cleaning via “Storage & reset” > “Internal shared storage.”

Instability on early batch units (2018-2019)
A subset of older hardware revisions suffer from boot loops after updating. Recovery mode (hold OK + Back on remote, then plug in power) is required. If your TV is out of warranty, you’ll need to flash via USB – Xiaomi doesn’t publish official recovery images for all 4A variants.

Part 2: Automatic Update (The Safe & Recommended Way)

For 99% of users, the automatic OTA (Over-The-Air) update is the best method. It requires no downloads, no USB drives, and minimal technical skill.

Time required: 15–30 minutes
Risk level: Very Low

Error 1: "Couldn't update. Installation problem."

  • Why: The TV has corrupted cache data from previous updates or the download was corrupted.
  • Fix: Go to Settings > Device Preferences > Storage & reset > Internal shared storage > Cached data (Clear cache). Then reboot and try the OTA update again.

Method B: Local Update (Manual Flash via USB)

Use this if you have downloaded a specific ROM file or if the TV is offline. Prerequisites:

  • A USB Drive (Fat32 formatted, MBR partition scheme).
  • The update package file (usually named update.zip or xiaomi_tv_update.zip).

Procedure:

  1. Download the specific ROM for the L43M5-5AIN model. Do not use the firmware for the 32" or 55" models, as the panel drivers differ.
  2. Place the .zip file in the root directory of the USB drive (do not unzip it).
  3. Unplug the TV from power.
  4. Insert the USB drive into the USB 2.0 port (usually the black port, not the blue USB 3.0 port if present).
  5. Press and hold the Power Button on the TV body (not the remote) while plugging the power cord back in.
  6. Release the button when the Xiaomi/Android recovery logo appears.
  7. Navigate using the remote: Select Apply update from USB.
