Beyond Midgar: Why Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade is the Definitive Way to Experience a Flawed Masterpiece

Let’s be honest for a second. When Square Enix first announced that the Final Fantasy VII Remake would only cover the first 5-6 hours of the original game (the Midgar section), the collective internet groans were deafening. "A cash grab," they said. "Padding," they said.

Then, the game launched in 2020, and those groans turned into stunned silence. They turned Midgar, a gritty prologue, into a sprawling, operatic cyberpunk epic.

Now, enter Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade (PS5 and PC). This isn’t just a port. It is the Snyder Cut of the FFVII experience—but with better frame rates and a lot less slow motion.

Here is why you need to play this version, even if you already beat the PS4 original.

Episode INTERmission: The Yuffie Awakening

Let’s be honest: the technical upgrades are nice, but they aren't the headline. The real star is Episode INTERmission, a two-chapter side story starring the Wutai ninja, Yuffie Kisaragi.

In the original game, Yuffie was a hidden, optional character—a materia thief who annoyed your party until you earned her trust. In Intergrade, she is front and center. Set concurrently with the main game’s latter half (during the Sector 7 plate drop), Yuffie and her partner Sonon infiltrate Midgar on a mission for Wutai: steal the "Ultimate Materia" from the Shinra Electric Power Company.

What Exactly is "Final Fantasy VII Remake- Intergrade"?

First, let's clarify the naming convention. The word "Intergrade" is a portmanteau of "Intermediate" and "Upgrade." Square Enix chose this title to signify that this version is not a sequel but an enhanced stepping stone between the original Remake and the upcoming Rebirth.

Final Fantasy VII Remake- Intergrade includes:

  1. The base Final Fantasy VII Remake game (all 18 chapters).
  2. The "FF7R EPISODE INTERmission" (a two-chapter standalone adventure featuring Yuffie Kisaragi).
  3. A suite of PlayStation 5-specific enhancements (60 FPS mode, 4K resolution, ultra-fast loading).
  4. A Photo Mode and new difficulty balancing.

Critically, this version is available on PS5 and PC. While PS4 players received a free upgrade (excluding the Yuffie DLC), Intergrade is the branding for the native next-gen package.

5. The INTERmission DLC (Yuffie’s Story)

If you buy Intergrade, you get access to a separate chapter in the main menu called INTERmission.

Enter Yuffie Kisaragi

Originally a optional secret character in the 1997 original, Yuffie takes center stage here. She is a Wutainese ninja and materia hunter sent by a faction of her government to infiltrate Midgar. Her goal: steal the "ultimate materia" from the Shinra Electric Power Company. However, her true mission is more spy-thriller than treasure hunt—she is there to observe the Shinra-Wutai ceasefire and determine if a new war is brewing.

Yuffie is the anti-Cloud. Where Cloud is stoic and reluctant, Yuffie is hyperactive, boastful, and immensely charming. The writing in Intergrade gives her a level of pathos that was absent in the original. Her dynamic with her partner, Sonon Kusakabe, provides the emotional anchor for the DLC.

I got this for my wife because she was wanting the audio bible to listen to at night before turning in to sleep. When we received it she was very pleased with it. She had heard of this particular audio Bible product before but had forgotten the name of it. We listen to it in the car while driving as well as at night. There are 79 CDs, so we try to do one CD in two days, which has not been difficult to do. We are both impressed with this Bible and would recommend it to anyone that is searching for an complete audio Bible.

Bought this for my husband. He has a 45 minute commute to and from work and we don't get very many radio stations in our area. He doesn't have satellite radio in his car like I do so he really loves listening to these on his drive. The kit is very nice and packaged very well. It comes with a carrying case for easy transport. The CD's are organized in hard cases and labeled according to each book of the Bible. He loves the sound effects and how each character has a different voice from the many different actors used to create this series. Well worth the money!

We know we will listen to the Cd's during the years to come, of course you still need to read His word but this is a great second. If you’re wondering just go for it, I promise it will BLESS you and its an investment into your growth and relationship with God.
