The RinexNavFile object provides the capability to read and write Broadcast Ephemeris data to and from a Rinex Navigation file. This is an ASCII file of Broadcast Ephemeris data conforming to the RINEX standard. FreeFlyer supports the RINEX 2 and RINEX 3 formats.

RinexNavFiles (also known as Broadcast Ephemerides) contain position, velocity, and clock information for some Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) constellations. The GPS and Galileo constellations both use the RINEX format. FreeFlyer has the ability to read and write RinexNavFiles, but cannot generate new data in this format (Broadcast Ephemeris data can be read in and then written out to a new file, but cannot be simulated independently). The time system is GPS Time, and positions and velocities are in the ECEF reference frame, which FreeFlyer converts into the ICRF frame.

Note: Due to its discontinuous nature, Broadcast Ephemeris data should not be used to propagate Spacecraft objects while detecting events using Interval Methods. Instead, the Broadcast Ephemeris should be used to set the initial state of the Spacecraft and then an integration-based propagator, such as an RK89 or Cowell integrator, should be used to propagate it.

More information on the RINEX format can be found in several locations. Two example references are provided below:

https://files.igs.org/pub/data/format/rinex305.pdf

Additionally, historical RinexNavFiles and pre-processing utilities can be downloaded from multiple sources; four examples are provided below:

ftp://cddis.gsfc.nasa.gov/gps/products/

An example of the format of a RINEX 2 Nav file is given below.

5. Suggested Best Practices for Managing the File

  1. Version Control – Store the text file in a version‑controlled repository (e.g., Git) or a cloud service with change history.
  2. Naming Conventions – Keep the original “Filedot To Belarus Studio Milana Tub .txt” but add a date suffix for revisions, e.g., Filedot_To_Belarus_Studio_Milana_Tub_2024-09-12_v2.txt.
  3. Secure Sharing – If the file contains confidential financial terms, share via encrypted channels (e.g., password‑protected zip or secure cloud link).
  4. Backup – Keep at least one offline backup (external drive) to guard against accidental deletion.
  5. Review Cycle – Schedule a brief “document health check” after each major milestone to confirm that the text still reflects reality (e.g., after scope changes).

Context & Themes

  • Historical backdrop: Belarus's Soviet legacy, state censorship, and contemporary migration flows shaping identity and memory.
  • Core themes: Displacement, archival loss, language and erasure, personal vs. collective memory, and resilience.
  • Artistic approach: Mix of found footage, audio field recordings, ephemeral installations, and participatory performance.

Part 2: Possible Interpretations (Legitimate vs. Malicious)

Overview

Filedot is a digital art collective specializing in experimental multimedia projects; "To Belarus" is an exhibition/performance series exploring migration, memory, and post-Soviet identity. Studio Milana Tub is a Minsk-based artist studio and cultural space led by Milana Tub, focused on interdisciplinary work combining video, sound, and installation. This post explains the collaboration, context, key works, and visitor information.

An example of the format of a RINEX 3 Nav file is given below.
