ESET Endpoint Security: How to Reset or Recover a Lost Password

2. The Settings Protection Password

This is the most common roadblock. It prevents modifying real-time protection, firewall rules, Web Control, and Device Control. When you see a lock icon in the Advanced Setup, this is the password you need.

3. Method 2: Standalone / Unmanaged ESET Endpoint Password Reset

If the device is not managed by a central server and you have lost the password: eset endpoint security password reset

B. Reset via ESET PROTECT (centralized management) — for managed endpoints

  1. Log into ESET PROTECT / ESET Remote Administrator (web console) as an admin.
  2. Navigate to Computers, select the target endpoint(s).
  3. Use the “Tasks” (or “Commands”) menu → choose “Change password” or “Reset password” task (name varies by server version).
  4. Enter the new policy password or agent communication password as required and schedule/run the task.
  5. Allow the agent to receive the task and apply the new password; check task status in the console for success.
  6. If agent is offline or not updating, troubleshoot agent connectivity (agent service running, firewall, network).
