Elden Ring Shadow Of The Erdtree Update V1 16rune New ((top)) [ FHD 2026 ]
The Elden Ring update v1.16 and subsequent v1.16.1 are minor patches primarily focused on game stability and bug fixes for the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion. Patch v1.16 Highlights (October 17, 2024)
This update targeted specific mechanical issues and performance stability:
Grafted Blade Glitch Fix: Resolved an issue where temporary stat boosts from the Grafted Blade Greatsword skill could remain semi-permanently after restarting the game.
Performance Improvements: Added recommendations for PS5 users to "Rebuild Database" in safe mode to improve framerate stability and warned PC users to check if Ray Tracing was unintentionally enabled.
General Bug Fixes: Included "several" unnamed fixes to enhance the overall experience in the Land of Shadow. Patch v1.16.1 Highlights (August 21, 2025) elden ring shadow of the erdtree update v1 16rune new
This later update addressed critical exploits affecting multiplayer and weapon mechanics:
Weapon Affinity Fix: Fixed a bug where incorrect affinities or status ailments were applied to certain weapons during specific actions.
Multiplayer Blocking: Fixed an unauthorized method that allowed players to bypass being blocked by others.
Tumble Buffing: Attempted to address the "tumble buffing" exploit, which allowed players to apply buffs like Death Blight to unintended weapons (e.g., bows) in PvP, though some community reports suggest variants may still exist. Shadow of the Erdtree Rune Farming The Elden Ring update v1
While these patches did not introduce new rune farms, the following locations remain the most effective in the DLC and base game:
⚔️ PvP & Balance Changes
- PvP Exclusive Adjustments: FromSoftware made significant tweaks to PvP damage ratios. Weapon skills and spells had their damage output adjusted specifically for player vs. player interactions to curb the dominance of certain "meta" builds.
- Weapon Buffs: Several underperforming weapons received buffs to attack power and motion values, encouraging build diversity.
- Skill Tweaks: Skills like Shield Crash and Bloodboon Ritual were adjusted to make them more balanced in both PvE and PvP.
⚔️ New Rune System Additions
1. Cracked Rune of the Unborn
- Dropped by: Post-NG+2 versions of Rennala’s phase 2 echoes in the Carian Shadowlands (new area added in v1.16).
- Effect: When activated, it does not grant Runes. Instead, it resets all stat allocations without consuming a Larval Tear. Single-use.
2. Great Rune of the Dismantled Crown
- Obtained: Defeating Messmer’s Gleaming Husk (hidden boss in the Shaman Village basement after giving 3 Spritestones to the Grandmother’s corpse).
- New effect: Grants +35% Rune acquisition for 30 minutes after you kill a Field Boss. Stacks with Gold Scarab and Gold Pickled Fowl Foot.
3. Rune Arc Integration
- You can now convert 5,000 Runes → 1 Rune Arc at any Site of Grace under “Trade with Melina’s Echo.”
- Also: Rune Arcs now last until death, even in co-op (no longer reset after each successful boss kill).
Weapons Buffed
- Sword of Light (Base game): Faith scaling increased from C to B at +10. The AoW “Light’s Embrace” now has hyper-armor during the initial wind-up.
- Bloodfiend’s Fork (DLC): Arcane scaling improved. The bleed build-up on charged heavies has been increased by 20%.
- Golem Halberd (DLC): Reduced equip load from 22.0 to 18.5. Damage on jump attacks reduced by 5% but stamina damage vs. blocking enemies increased by 30%.
How to Farm the "New" Runes in v1.16
If you want to test this for yourself, follow this route:
- Location: Rauh Ancient Ruins (Site of Grace: "Rauh Ancient Ruins, West").
- Requirements: Access to the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC.
- Method:
- From the Grace, head east toward the collapsed aqueduct.
- You will find two patrolling Horned Warriors.
- Use a high-damage Ash of War (e.g., Lions Claw or Blood Tax) to stagger them quickly.
- Rest at the Grace and repeat.
Note: FromSoftware has not officially confirmed this as a change. It may be a bug introduced in v1.16 that could be patched out in a hotfix.
1. New Rune Values for DLC Enemies
Some enemies in Shadow of the Erdtree now drop more runes than before. For example:
- Curseblades (formerly 3,200 runes) now drop 3,700 runes per kill.
- Fire Knights in Messmer’s keep have seen a 12% increase.
- Horned Warriors now drop a baseline of 5,000 runes, up from 4,200.
This isn’t a massive overhaul, but it makes farming inside the DLC more efficient than farming in the base game’s Mohgwyn Palace. ⚔️ New Rune System Additions
