Corrupted Saves & Prevention

Because Eastern Sun uses extended item stats beyond the vanilla engine, editing saves with standard D2 Hero Editor will almost certainly break them. Instead:

• Use ES专用的存档修改器 (Eastern Sun-specific editors, rarely updated) or avoid editing altogether.
• Always back up your entire save folder before installing a new patch or shared character.

The Save Folder Location

By default, Diablo 2 stores character files in the installation directory. However, if you are running a modern version of Windows (Vista, 7, 8, 10, or 11), the game often redirects saves to a Virtual Store folder to bypass permission issues.

Standard Locations:

• Direct Install: C:\Program Files (x86)\Diablo II\Save\
• Virtual Store (Windows 10/11): C:\Users\[YourUsername]\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\Diablo II\Save\
