4. Controls and Components (Front Panel)
The manual identifies the following parts (typical layout):
- LCD Display – 3.5 digits, polarity indication, low battery icon.
- Rotary Function Switch – Selects measurement type and range.
- Hold Button – Freezes the displayed reading.
- 10A Jack – High-current input (unfused on some versions – check manual).
- VΩmA Jack – For voltage, resistance, diode, and low current.
- COM Jack – Common (black lead) connection.
- Range Switch (if present) – On some models, manual range override.
Additional Features
The user manual also provides information on additional features, including:
- Diode testing: Test diodes and transistors using the diode test function.
- Continuity testing: Test for continuity using the continuity test function.
- Auto-ranging: Use the auto-ranging feature to automatically select the correct measurement range.
Battery Replacement
- The low battery icon (a "+" or "BAT") appears when voltage drops below ~7.5V.
- To replace: Remove the rubber holster. Unscrew the back cover (one screw). Replace the 9V battery. Do not reverse polarity.
Maintenance & Battery
- Typical battery: 9V (replace when low-battery indicator shows).
- Clean with dry cloth; do not use solvents.
- Store in dry location; remove battery for long-term storage.
6.2 Fuse Replacement
- Some 82082 models include a fuse (often 200mA/250V) for the mA jack.
- The 10A jack is typically unfused – do not exceed 10A for >30 seconds.
- Use identical fuse type specified in manual.
