The five women have been a unit for six years, forged in the crucible of LA’s gig economy and the adult entertainment industry, which all of them have worked in or adjacent to. That shared history is the film’s engine.
“We wanted to make something that felt like us,” says Gina Valentina, 30, whose performance as the group’s brittle, hilarious “accountant” is already generating awards chatter. “Hollywood always shows female friendship as either a support group or a battlefield. We wanted to show the mud—the place where you love someone so much you want to kill them.”
Joseline Kelly leans in. “The ‘top’ in the title? That’s not about sex positions. That’s about power. Who’s on top of the friendship pyramid this week? Who’s crashing? The dirty movie is the lie we tell ourselves to pretend we have control.”
