5. Operating System Installation
Step 2: RAM Installation
- The ASUS H81M-K has two DIMM slots supporting Dual-Channel architecture.
- For 2 sticks: Insert into Slot A1 (black) and Slot B1 (brown) for dual channel.
- For 1 stick: Use Slot A1 (closest to CPU) for single channel.
- Push down until the retention clips click shut.
C. Setting Fan Curves (Q-Fan Control)
This board supports ASUS Q-Fan for quieter operation.
- Go to Advanced Mode > Monitor tab.
- Scroll down to Q-Fan Control.
- Select the CPU Fan.
- Choose a profile: Silent (for office work) or Standard (balanced). This prevents the CPU fan from ramping up and down annoyingly.
For Windows 7 (Legacy)
- Use Windows 7 USB Tool to slipstream USB 3.0 drivers. The H81M-K natively supports Windows 7 but lacks built-in USB 3.0 drivers for installation.
7.2 RAM Overclocking
- H81 chipset officially supports DDR3-1600. Higher frequencies (1866/2133) require BCLK adjustment – not recommended due to system instability.
